thanks for posting this Judy... I briefly skimmed it... I've got limited internet here on vacation... I missed where it said it was grown organically....  they must use very little of the molasses as the NSC are still very low... when I get home I want to look into this more...

thanks a bunch

Hi Cary
Most of us have the same interest...which is organic hay.  It just seems impossible to find.  This particular product was introduced to quite a few horse people the other day.  I 'm not sure where it is being shipped to, but, could perhaps be the way of the future.  How many of us have a hard time finding hay that, not only we can't afford per bale, or, if we can afford it, it is dirty, full of weeds or tremendously full of chemicals from fertilizers.  I am sick and tired of all of this.  To the point that I actually take home hay from the barn where I board.  I soak and dry it, so that I can put it in big bags for the feeder to feed.  As I prepare it for drying, you'd be surprised what I find!!

Anyway, that job is quickly exhausing me and using up a great deal of my day, every day.  I need relief and need an alternative.  We have at least one woman that I know of who is going to try it...so I'll wait and see what she thinks.  This company is, I think, in Texas.

Will keep the forum posted...

Hi all- just a quickie on the topic of chaffe hay- My neighbor is using it and has been for about a year- she also sells it- what they have found is that they are needing to supplement with regular hay for chew time- her guys eat it right up but need the chew time to keep the gut working - with the chaffe hay it is digested quickly and then their stomachs are empty for a longer period of time as well as they get bored and start looking for other thing s to chew on- horses are grazers and their bodies should have something going through their systems on a fairly regular basis-                      Later  Ellen

Fortunately for my mares there are two organic hay farmers right in my area.  This is where I buy my hay every year.  There are many in the New England area too.

Hi all
I just popped on here and read some inquiry about Chaffehay.  I just wanted to let you know I have been feeding Topper his first bag this week.  I feed his regular Teff and Bermuda hay and his pellets also, but smaller amt.  He is eating the Chaffehay daily.  I feed 3-4 lbs in the AM and 3-4 lbs in the PM.
He is seemingly starting to feel better, more alert, still hungary, but always has hay left over to chew if he wants.  I am excited about Chaffehay and plan on supplementing with it.  I was told it isn't designed to feed 100%, but as part of the diet, if you desire.  When you open the bag it smells like wine (ha ha)   Surprised..from the fermentation.  I just told my barn buddies Topper was getting a glass of wine with his meals now!!   Laugh Laugh  The lady at Chaffehay is full of information and is sending me all that she has.  If you are interested, Google Chaffehay, and call Kimber.

The day is good when the horse feels good!!   Happy

boy, you're right about that, Judy... its a joy to see our once ailing horses doing well, isn't it?  Keep us posted... may be a good option for others...  do they deliver to your barn or do you get it at your feedstore?  Seems like you'd have to be on some sort of buying program.... does it keep a long time if unopened?

 Hi
My feed store started carrying it..which delighted me.  The distributor who lives here was difficult to work with.  I buy a bale at a time. But, if you buy 12 bales, you get one free.  I will do that if and when I decide to make it permanent in his diet.  The unopened bale lasts 24 mos..I think that is what I read.  The opened bale, lasts about 7 days.  Now, that sounds like too short of time..but it really isn't.  You open it, take out what you want, roll the top shut and, I seal with a small strip of duct tape and put a garbage bag over mine.  I have used it quickly, so the time isn't really an issue, nor is feeding.  The bags are 50 lbs.  It really aids in their digestion, and will allow us to feed less since it helps digest their food better.  It's called the "splash factor".  When I get that info, I'll let you know.
No dirt, bugs, weeds, mold, rocks, pesticides..I think it is certified organic (need to double ck).  I'm very happy with this addition to his feed.  There isn't a buying program...buy what you want.  At least that's how it is here.
