Dr. Thomas' Formulation Strategy for Gastric Ulcers

For Love of the Horse's Gastric Ulcers Solution contains fourteen herbs within a proprietary blend. The focus of this herbal solution is to reduce the gastric acid responsible for gastrointestinal ulcerations and recover the health of the gastrointestinal lining. In line with these objectives, single herbs were chosen to comprise the herbal "groups" responsible for each treatment objective and blended proportionally to maintain the integrity of the "whole" solution. One group of herbs is responsible for the reduction and regulation of gastric acid and raising the gastrointestinal pH, i.e. more alkaline. Two of the herbs within this group contained calcium carbonate for the neutralization of acid. A second group deals with the recovery of the intestinal lining from the ulceration damage including herbs to "soothe" the stomach and relieve pain. This group contains within it an "adjunct" group to direct the properties of these herbs to the gastrointestinal system. As is often the case with gastric and duodenal ulcers, these horses frequently have diarrhea and sometimes bleeding. So there is a third group of herbs incorporated into this formula to inhibit bleeding and stop diarrhea without interfering with gastric motility.
